Exports of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products reached $24.6 billion in the first 10 months.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export value of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products in October 2015 was estimated at US$2.55 billion. This brings the total export value of the sector for the first 10 months to US$24.61 billion, a decrease of 3.8% compared to the same period in 2014.
Apart from pepper and cashew nuts, which maintained growth momentum, most major agricultural products experienced declines in both volume and value. Specifically, rice exports in the first 10 months were estimated at 5.32 million tons with a value of US$2.26 billion, a decrease of 4.6% in volume and 11.7% in value compared to the same period in 2014. The average export price of rice in the first 9 months reached US$428.69/ton, a decrease of 6.3% compared to the same period in 2014. China remains Vietnam's largest rice import market, accounting for 37% of the market share.
Similar to rice, exports of coffee and rubber continued to experience sharp double-digit declines. After 10 months, coffee exports are estimated at 1.05 million tons with a total value of $2.13 billion, a decrease of 29.6% in volume and 31.4% in value compared to the same period last year. Rubber exports are estimated at 870,000 tons, valued at $1.22 billion, an increase of 3.5% in volume but a decrease of 15.8% in value compared to the same period in 2014.
Export prices for tea continued to increase slightly, but the decrease in export volume led to a decline in value. Tea exports in the first 10 months were estimated at 99,000 tons (down 9.1%) with a value of 170 million USD (down 8.4% in both volume and value compared to the same period in 2014).
Cashew nuts and pepper remain the most prominent agricultural exports. Cashew nut exports are estimated at 272,000 tons, worth $1.97 billion, representing a 6.3% increase in volume and an 18% increase in value compared to the same period in 2014. With pepper export prices increasing by 25% year-on-year, although volume decreased by 19.6% (reaching 117,000 tons), value still increased by 0.5% (reaching $1.11 billion).
For wood and wood products, the estimated export value for the past 10 months reached US$5.47 billion, an increase of 7.9% compared to the same period in 2014. The United States, Japan, and China are the three largest import markets for Vietnam, accounting for 67.21% of the total export value.
Seafood exports in the first 10 months of 2015 reached US$5.37 billion, a decrease of 17.7% compared to the same period last year. The United States remains the leading import market for Vietnamese seafood, accounting for 19.43% of total export value.
