Upland rice season

(Baonghean.vn) - These days, when visiting the highland districts of western Nghe An province, one can easily spot the golden ripe rice fields of the ethnic minority people. The upland rice harvest season has begun.

Although they know how to intensively cultivate wet rice to increase economic efficiency, due to the limited cultivated area, upland rice is an integral part of life for the Thai and Khmu people inhabiting these regions. On their hillside fields, they only grow one type of traditional glutinous rice for daily consumption. This year, the upland rice crop suffered a severe failure due to a prolonged drought, but the people are still actively working on their fields hoping to harvest whatever remains.
