(Baonghean) - Over the past 12 years, “Month of Encouragement of Learning” has become an annual activity and has spread widely, attracting the attention of the whole community; becoming a beautiful tradition of the people of Nghe An. The activities of “Month of Encouragement of Learning” have contributed to helping and encouraging many poor students to study hard, helping them go to school.

We visited the Association for the Promotion of Education in Cua Lo coastal town in the last days of September, the atmosphere at the association was quite busy. Mr. Le Dinh Thuy, Vice President of the Association for the Promotion of Education in the town, was busy from ward to ward to implement the content of the Month for Promotion of Education and the Day for Promotion of Education (October 2). Following Mr. Thuy, we visited the Tran Manh Pho clan in Nghi Hai ward. Mr. Tran Bach Mai, the head of the clan, said that the clan currently has 78 families, mainly living in Nghi Hai ward. For many years, the descendants of the clan have always believed in "studying to escape poverty", so they all try to study well, even though their parents make a living by going to sea and trading seafood in the town. In the clan, there are poor families but they raise 3-4 children to go to university.

Even the family of Mr. Tran Bach Ngoc Hung, who works as a seafarer in Block 3, still tried to raise 3 children to go to university and now all 3 are successful, directors and deputy directors of companies in Ho Chi Minh City. In particular, in the Tran Manh Pho family, saving to contribute to the family education fund has become a tradition. From this family fund, the family Education Fund was formed. On occasions such as the 15th of January, Education Month, and the death anniversary of ancestors, families freely contribute to the education fund... The family council also organizes awards on this occasion to encourage children in the family to study hard. Currently, the Tran Manh Pho family is maintaining an education fund of 50 million VND/year.

This permanent fund is ready to support poor families, help students overcome difficulties to study and reward their children with good academic achievements. The family's study encouragement movement has developed, becoming a motivation for children to strive to study. Up to now, many descendants of the Tran Manh Pho family have achieved success in their studies, holding positions in many state agencies or as directors and deputy directors of large enterprises, bringing honor to the family.

Tan Loc Parish, Nghi Tan Ward, is also one of the bright spots in the study encouragement movement of Cua Lo Town. In the past 5 years, Tan Loc Parish has had 35 students passing university and college entrance exams, 30 excellent students at all levels, and hundreds of poor students overcoming difficulties to study well. Although people's lives are still difficult, since 2002, when the Parish was first established, the Tan Loc Parish Study Encouragement Board has been formed to take care of and develop the study movement for children. Every year, on holidays and Tet, students who are commended and awarded scholarships are honored in the "golden book of study encouragement" of the parish. Not only does it bring honor to the children, but it also brings pride to each family, creating an atmosphere of competition in studying among parish members.

In recent years, the emulation movement to build a family line to encourage learning in Cua Lo town has been encouraged to expand as a basis for the movement to build a learning society. Up to now, the whole town has 70/147 families achieving the title of Advanced Family Line in promoting learning. Typical examples include: Hoang Duc family (Nghi Thuy), Nguyen Huy family (Thu Thuy), Hoang Van family (Nghi Tan, Nghi Huong)... Every year, the whole town's fund for promoting learning mobilizes over 2 billion VND, of which the fund for promoting learning in the families contributes nearly 500 million VND each year.

In Dien Chau district, the campaign to build a fund to encourage learning and talent is also attracting a large number of cadres and people in all 39 communes and towns, 50 agencies and units and more than 250 enterprises in the district to participate. Each locality has its own good way of encouraging learning. Some places plant an extra tree, raise an extra animal, save money and contribute to the fund to encourage learning. Some hamlets undertake irrigation works to contribute money to the fund. All 460 veteran associations in 39 communes and towns annually contribute from 200,000 to 300,000 VND/chapter to the hamlet's fund to encourage learning. Thousands of cadres and children of Dien Chau who work far away send money back to contribute to the fund and build schools. Philanthropists and enterprises sponsor orphans, disabled children, and children affected by Agent Orange.

Up to now, all 460 hamlets have established a scholarship fund, with some having a minimum of 3 million VND, while others have a maximum of 8-10 million VND/hamlet. More than 30/39 communes and towns have an annual balance of 70-100 million VND/fund. The Scholarship Fund has become a cultural beauty, a competition target, and a criterion for evaluating communes in the district. Teacher Ngo Quang Long, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Dien Chau district, said: Following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, party members and teachers are all exemplary in implementing the scholarship movement. Teachers spend their salaries to buy textbooks and school supplies to support poor students. The Board of Directors of schools make a list and send it to the People's Committees of communes to exempt poor students and children with special difficulties from contributions such as tuition fees and school and classroom construction fees.

In Do Luong district, the movements of “The sound of drums to wrap lessons” and “The sound of gongs to study lessons” have been maintained for many years and have increasingly spread to many villages and hamlets in the district. This year, Do Luong district continues to expand the movements of gongs to encourage learning, drums to encourage learning, loudspeakers to encourage learning; calling for contributions to the fund to encourage learning.

Nghe An is considered one of the strong localities in the country in the work of promoting learning and talent, in which the building of studious families and studious clans is prominent. Up to now, in the whole province, there are more than 460 thousand families achieving the title of studious families, reaching 60%; there are over 6,000 clans' Learning Promotion Boards. The emulation movement to build studious clans has developed strongly in almost all clans in the province; activities are diverse and effective. The number of clans achieving the title of studious clans increases every year. In 2010, the whole province had 3,348 studious clans, which has now increased to 3,720 studious clans. 100% of the blocks, hamlets, villages, and hamlets have established learning promotion associations and have been maintained and developed.

The emulation movement to build and develop a learning promotion community has also been strongly developed in agencies, units, hometown associations, and subject associations... Over the past 5 years, the whole province has mobilized 214.6 billion VND for the Learning Promotion Fund, with 824 thousand poor students overcoming difficulties and talented students in various fields being rewarded and awarded scholarships.

Mr. Tran Xuan Bi, Chairman of the Provincial Association for the Promotion of Education, said: The Month for the Promotion of Education has been implemented for the past 12 years and has created a widespread learning movement; encouraging excellent students and poor students to make more efforts in their studies. Every year, the Month for the Promotion of Education mobilizes about 20 billion VND. From this fund, the association at all levels has organized many activities to care for the learning of students in the area. And it is from that encouragement that has contributed to helping thousands of poor students in the province realize their dream of going to school.
