According to the Head of the Specialized Inspection Department (Inspector of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Pham Tien Dung: Through the people's denunciation, this unit coordinated with the police force to investigate and discovered the use of a new toxic chemical in livestock farming, yellow o (VO).
Mr. Pham Tien Dung added: Through experiments on animals by the Agricultural Academy 1, it has been shown that VO is a chemical that causes cancer in experimental animals and can cause cancer in humans if they eat animal meat that still has residues of this substance.
Talking about the new chemical - VO, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Nguyen Xuan Duong shared: "VO is not on the list of banned substances used in the production of animal feed, so it is not called a "banned substance", at the same time this chemical is also not on the list of raw materials for the production of animal feed that are allowed to be used.
VO is an imported chemical used to dye fabric fibers or as a raw material for paint and wall coating in the construction industry. This substance is not allowed to be used in food because it is harmful to the health of consumers when eating meat containing this substance.
The path of the banned substance
Many people wonder how chemicals used in dyeing fabrics or in construction can get into livestock? Explaining this issue, according to the Department of Animal Husbandry, this chemical appears in the livestock farming process, farmers mix chemicals into food to create beautiful colors, due to chemical residues, when pre-processing animals that eat food mixed with this chemical have an eye-catching yellow color.
Also due to the consumer habits of people who like foods with beautiful colors. This may be the reason why farmers use chemicals to color their products.

Currently, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Inspection has sent a document to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposing to supplement testing methods to detect this toxic substance early in livestock farming. Information is being further investigated to clarify more about this chemical. The management agency confirmed that this is not the first time the chemical "yellow o" has been discovered, as the authorities discovered this chemical last year in Hai Phong.
Regarding banned substances and antibiotics used in livestock farming recently such as salbutamol, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry Nguyen Xuan Duong said: The Department has coordinated with the relevant agencies to introduce a rapid test strip for banned substances. This type of strip tests through the urine of livestock. It is expected that in October, the Department of Animal Husbandry will submit a document to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development so that the test strip method can be put into use soon.
Head of the Specialized Inspection Department (Inspector of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Pham Tien Dung said: The inspection force of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has been coordinating with localities in the Southern region to rectify the situation of using banned substances and antibiotics in livestock farming. At the same time, the two livestock companies, An-co and CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, are required to coordinate with veterinary agencies and local authorities to closely monitor the process of exporting commercial pigs to the market to clarify information that recently, after buying pigs from these two companies, traders used banned substances to fatten pigs for illegal profits, affecting the company's brand.
According to most units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, through inspection results and monitoring work, they all have the same opinion that to prevent this situation, not only the participation of state management agencies is needed, but also the participation and denunciation of people and genuine breeders.
