As of September 26, 2015, pangasius exporting enterprises nationwide have signed export contracts for 721,200 tons of various products, according to the Vietnam Pangasius Association (VN Pangasius).

In terms of types, VN Pangasius' report shows that fillet products still account for the largest proportion, although there has been a gradual downward trend, while value-added products also continue to decline.

Specifically, if in the first quarter of 2015, fillet products accounted for 83.6% of the total registered export volume of the whole industry, then in the second quarter it decreased to 77.25% and this figure in the third quarter (as of September 26, 2015) was 76.65%. Meanwhile, if value-added products in the first quarter accounted for 1.78% of the total registered export volume of the whole industry, then in the second quarter it was 0.55% and continued to decrease to 0.53% in the third quarter (as of September 26).

For whole and cut products, the proportion of registered exports has generally remained stable since the beginning of the year, with the proportions for the first three quarters of the year being 7.02%, 8.71% and 8.63%, respectively.

Particularly for fishmeal, the proportion of registered export contracts has grown quite strongly. For example, if there are no export orders for this product in the first quarter, then in the second quarter it accounts for 3.88% of the entire industry and in the third quarter it is 7.35%.

If classified by import market, according to VN Pangasius' report, the US, EU, ASEAN, China and Hong Kong are the markets with the largest proportion of registered imports.

Specifically, for the US, the first three quarters of 2015 accounted for 13%, 13% and 10.6% of the total industry share, respectively; the EU accounted for 16%, 14% and 14.1%, respectively; ASEAN accounted for 16%, 10% and 11.1%, respectively; while China and Hong Kong accounted for 12%, 19% and 18% of the total industry share.

Regarding the export situation, according to TBKTSG Online's research, by the end of August 2015, Vietnamese pangasius had been exported to 113 countries and territories with a turnover of 1.022 billion USD, down 9.1% compared to the same period last year.

Mr. Vo Hung Dung, Vice President and General Secretary of VN Pangasius, forecasts that the export turnover of tra fish in 2015 will reach 1.7 billion USD, down 3.5% compared to the same period last year.

According to Mr. Dung, Vietnam’s pangasius export turnover decreased due to the impact of exchange rates, not because of a decrease in demand from other countries. “Exchange rate fluctuations led to a sharp decrease in export turnover in the first months of the year, so even if it recovers in the last months of the year, it is still not enough to compensate,” Mr. Dung explained.

According to VN Pangasius' forecast, in 2015, the harvested pangasius output will reach about 1 million tons, down about 5% compared to 2014, corresponding to a harvested area of 3,500 hectares, down 8% compared to 2014.
