10 outstanding achievements of the agricultural sector in the period 2010-2015
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced 10 outstanding achievements of the industry in the period 2010-2015.
1. New rural construction has become a widespread movement throughout the country, supported by the entire political system and the people. With many creative approaches, many resources have been mobilized to build new rural areas, thanks to which the appearance of many rural areas of our country has been renewed, and the spiritual and material life of the people has been improved. By the end of 2015, about 1,500 communes and 9 districts and towns had met new rural standards.

2. The agricultural export turnover of over 30 billion USD in 2014 is a mark of spectacular growth of the agriculture and rural development sector in the context of complicated weather conditions; difficult agricultural export market, reduced purchasing power... Vietnam has become a major agricultural exporter in the world with 10 types of agricultural products reaching a turnover of over 1 billion USD/year.
3. The image of heroic fisheries officers fighting at sea has encouraged patriotism and the indomitable will of the people in the struggle to protect the sea and islands of the Fatherland. Although newly established (November 2012), Vietnam Fisheries Surveillance has affirmed its great responsibility in participating in law enforcement at sea, actively helping and supporting fishermen to go offshore.
4. Restructuring the agricultural sector is implemented on the basis of promoting the advantages of the whole country and each locality in association with the domestic and export markets. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved 24 plans for restructuring. Of these, 17 are nationwide plans and 7 are specific regional, area, and local plans... which significantly contribute to maintaining, developing production, business, and growth of the entire sector.
5. Maintaining 3.8 million hectares of rice land is a major agricultural policy approved by the National Assembly to ensure food security as well as farmers' livelihoods. Thanks to that, the advantages of rice continue to be promoted and many new policies have been created to support and improve the lives of rice farmers.
6. Joint Circular No. 14 on "perfecting the administrative apparatus" in the agriculture and rural development sector has clearly defined the functions and tasks of organizations in the system, ensuring that the direction and administration from the central to local levels is smooth, effective, and efficient, in line with the State's administrative reform and civil service reform policies of the Government.
7. Over 2.7 billion USD mobilized from ODA capital in agriculture and rural areas is a record in the past 5 years. From this capital source, many irrigation works, rural traffic... have been built, upgraded, and repaired, thereby contributing to promoting domestic resources and increasing the position of the agricultural sector in the international arena.
8. High-tech agriculture has become a “new wave” in the agricultural production sector. With capital potential and business experience, large enterprises focusing on investing in high-tech agriculture are creating quality products, with food safety controlled along the chain, initially competing with imported goods and aiming for export.
9. In one term, the National Assembly passed the most laws on agriculture. The passage of the Law on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the Law on Plant Protection and Quarantine, and the Law on Veterinary Medicine created a unified legal framework, institutionalizing the Party and State's guidelines and policies, while strengthening State management in these areas.
10. Payment for forest environmental services is the most effective policy for forest protection and development today. When the policy came into effect, it increased the protected forest area from 2.8 to 3.37 million hectares. At the same time, it created a sustainable financial source, contributing to stabilizing the lives of forest workers, especially ethnic minorities in mountainous areas.

Entering a new phase, the tasks of the agriculture and rural development sector are extremely heavy with many difficulties and challenges in the period of increasingly deep international integration, the impact of climate change is increasingly clear and strong. Therefore, the agriculture and rural development sector must strive to achieve and exceed the target for sustainable and quality growth, continuing to contribute to rapidly improving the living conditions of rural residents...
