(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An General Hospital has just performed emergency surgery to save the life of a patient with an aortic aneurysm, the aneurysm began to rupture, threatening rapid death.

The surgery was performed on November 21. By November 27, the patient was completely out of danger.

Previously, patient Ngo Hoa (81 years old, Doi Cung, Vinh City) was hospitalized with a diagnosis of aortic aneurysm, the aneurysm began to rupture, threatening rapid death if not treated promptly.

Immediately, the patient was transferred to the emergency operating room in a state of circulatory collapse and pale mucous membranes. Through ultrasound, the doctor saw an image of an aortic aneurysm just below the renal artery, the aneurysm size was 7-11 cm, a large retroperitoneal hematoma, and the abdominal aortic aneurysm began to rupture.

The patient received postoperative treatment in the hospital,

The patient was operated on by the doctors of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department, who simultaneously controlled and clamped the neck of the upper and lower ends of the aneurysm to stop the bleeding, and removed the aneurysm and replaced it with an artificial graft. During the surgery, the patient was transfused with 1500ml of blood. After 4 hours of effort, the surgery was a great success.

“During the surgery, the most difficult part is controlling the aneurysm’s upper end, because if the aneurysm spreads to the renal artery, it will cause kidney failure. The surgeons of the surgical team must also quickly restore the artery and ensure adequate blood flow to the lower limbs to avoid necrosis,” said Master Pham Van Chung, Department of Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery, the main surgeon of the surgery.

The post-operative resuscitation process for patient Hoa was also very difficult, because the patient was old, weak, and exhausted, and liver and kidney dysfunction often occurred after surgery. In addition to the amount of blood used during surgery, the patient was also given 1 liter of blood and 1 liter of fresh plasma during the resuscitation process.

The risk of death was always present, but after nearly a week of postoperative resuscitation, the patient was awake, had no fever, and his hemodynamics and blood and biochemical test results were stable.

Master Tran Minh Long, Head of the Department of Surgical Resuscitation, said: Aortic aneurysm surgery is an advanced technique in the treatment of vascular diseases, which was first implemented by the Nghe An General Hospital in Nghe An province. Previously, when Nghe An General Hospital had not yet implemented this surgery, most patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms that were threatened with rupture and rupture were admitted to the hospital in a very serious and critical condition and did not have time to be transferred to a higher level for emergency treatment.
