(Baonghean) - Quang Su village (also known as Su village, in Nghia Duc commune, Nghia Dan district) has a population of mostly ethnic minorities and immigrants from other places. The change in people's awareness as well as creativity in economic activities here is gradually brightening the face of the renewed mountainous countryside.

Proactively develop farm economy

Looking from Ru Am hill, Su village appears with a pure beauty in the embrace of Khe Da lake and the eye-catching green of acacia forests and sugarcane hills revived after the long drought in mid-2015. “Previously, Su villagers mainly relied on the forest, logging or hunting for a living. Hard work, hardship but still poor. Keeping up with the common business spirit, Su villagers have found new, creative directions in economic development. Now, people's lives have improved a lot. Every household has cows and goats to raise, and then develop their farms and ranches to become rich”, said Mr. Le Van Duc, deputy hamlet head of Su village.

To “prove” what he said, the village deputy Le Van Duc took us to visit the sugarcane hill of more than 3 hectares owned by Mr. Dinh Van Hoa’s family. Mr. Hoa is a demobilized soldier who returned to the village. After researching and witnessing many farming households in Tan Ky district escape poverty thanks to sugarcane, Mr. Hoa boldly borrowed capital to plant 5 sao. Gradually, the sugarcane area was expanded and he became the owner of a sugarcane garden that many traders sought out.

Mr. Hoa shared: "Previously, planting the old sugarcane variety - QD 93159 also had high productivity, but the plants were weak, prone to falling and quickly flowering, low profit". Therefore, Mr. Hoa and many households in Su village chose the sugarcane variety LK 9221 with high productivity, high sugar content, and late flowering, so the efficiency was more stable than before.

In addition to growing sugarcane, Mr. Hoa also invested in buying 2 large capacity trucks to transport his family's sugarcane for consumption as well as for transportation business. Thanks to that, for many years he has been a typical good economic model of Nghia Dan district.

From Mr. Hoa's success, many villagers have boldly invested in sugarcane, currently the total area of this crop of the villagers of Su village is nearly 70 hectares. Along with sugarcane, acacia is also being invested in and developed by the villagers of Su village with an area of up to 115 hectares. Acacia planting is no longer left to "the heavens" as before; people proceed to weed and care for acacia like other commercial crops. It can be said that the focus on forestry development of Su village has helped many families escape poverty in recent times.

Mr. Phung Thanh Lien - one of the largest cow and goat raising households in Su village. Currently, his family has a herd of more than 20 goats. In addition to raising goats, Mr. Lien's family also raises 10 cows. Mr. Lien said: with the potential advantage of forests, it is very suitable for developing farm and forest garden economy. Especially applying science and technology to raising livestock.

Efficiency from labor export

Visiting the family of Ms. Lo Thi Chu, who has spent nearly 7 years working abroad in Taiwan. Ms. Chu happily said: "With an income of nearly 20 million VND/month, after 7 years of working abroad, my family has capital to proactively develop the economy."

Sharing the joy with the people of Su village, Mr. Pham Van Linh, Secretary of the Su village Party Cell, said: "Su village now has many people working abroad, bringing in a good income every year, having capital to do business, many families are starting to get rich". Currently, Su village has 36 workers in Taiwan and Korea, the source of remittances each year ranges from 600 to 700 million VND. Also from the resources of labor export, the lives of families have been improved and have made significant contributions to the construction of social welfare works in the village.

From the success of the “pioneers” like Mr. Lien and Ms. Chu, it shows that the people of Su village have changed their thinking and way of doing business, many households have boldly invested in developing livestock farming to stabilize their lives and get rich. The lives of 124 households in Su village are now better. For the poor households, the locality as well as the villagers have been helping to find a way to escape poverty.
