To meet the people's demand for Dong Tao chicken, for over a year, Mr. Vu Ngoc Tuan (Dong Hoa commune, Trang Bom district, Dong Nai province), the owner of the largest Dong Tao chicken farm in the Southeast region, has raised 3,000 commercial chickens. Up to this point, his chicken farm has only more than 1,000 meat chickens; of which 850 have been ordered by customers.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Tuan said: From 2013 to now, the demand for Dong Tao chicken in the Southeast region has increased sharply. Previously, people only bought Dong Tao chicken for offerings on death anniversaries and Tet, but now every day of the year, my chicken farm has customers coming to buy. In 2015, Mr. Tuan sold over 10,000 chickens; including 8,000 breeding chickens and 2,000 meat chickens.

Despite the high demand, the occasionLunar New Year 2016Mr. Tuan still keeps the selling price as usual, each kg of rooster costs 350,000 VND, hen costs 300,000 VND. Particularly, beautiful chickens (big feet, eye-catching shape), large weight (from 4.5 kg/chicken - more than 5 kg/chicken) cost around 5 million VND/chicken.

Mr. Tuan shared: “I have been raising Dong Tao chickens for 14 years now, but this is the first year I have two roosters with “huge” legs. This pair of chickens has a customer who has placed an order for 10 million VND each, and they will come to catch them on December 28 (lunar calendar).”

Realizing that Dong Tao chickens bring high profits, recently, Mr. Cao Vinh Phat (Phu Hoi commune, Nhon Trach district) has raised 700 breeding chickens and commercial chickens. At Mr. Phat's farm, people have come to order since the beginning of December 2015 and up to now, his farm only has over 100 meat chickens left.

Mr. Phat shared: "The closerLunar New YearThe more customers come, the more my remaining chickens will definitely be sold out during the 2016 Binh Than Tet. I plan to expand my farm next year and raise more Dong Tao chickens to supply the market during Tet."

Dong Tao chickens are currently popular in the market, however, with many years of experience raising this type of poultry, Mr. Vu Ngoc Tuan said that Dong Tao chickens are difficult to raise and breed. Due to their low resistance, chickens often get sick when the weather changes; each batch of chickens only lays 10-12 eggs, and during the incubation process, the hatching rate is only about 50%.

Mr. Tuan emphasized: "My farm mainly sells breeding chickens (over 1 month old chickens cost 500,000 VND/pair). When customers come to buy chickens to raise, I always carefully advise them on how to raise them."

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Nai province, raising Dong Tao chickens is still a new model in Dong Nai. During the Lunar New Year, Dong Tao chickens are easy to sell, but most of the rest of the year, few people buy this type of poultry.

Dong Nai is suitable for raising livestock and poultry because of its temperate climate and abundant food sources, but Dong Tao chickens have weaknesses, so people need to study carefully before raising them in large numbers./.
