Gasoline prices hit bottom at $0.47 a gallon.

According to Patrick DeHaan, an oil analyst at GasBuddy.com, Michigan is the first state in more than a decade where gasoline prices are below $1 per gallon.

A gas station in Houghton Lake, Michigan, has slashed its price to 47 cents after a price war between three gas stations in the town. Mr. Dehann expressed surprise at the price and exclaimed: “For gas prices to be this low is rare, it has never happened before.”

The average price of gasoline in the United States is currently $1.889 per gallon, down 17 cents from $2.061 a year ago. The drop in gasoline prices may be the result of the sharp decline in oil prices, amid a glut in supply and falling demand.
