The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the Pakistani university.

The Pakistani Taliban (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the gun and explosives attack on Bacha Khan University in the town of Charsadda, northwestern Pakistan, which killed at least 25 people and injured more than 50 on January 20.

A TTP leader said that four suicide bombers from the group carried out the attack on Bacha Khan University, and claimed it was retaliation for the Pakistani army's offensive against the TTP stronghold.

According to regional police chief Saeed Wazir, Pakistani security forces have now repelled the attack. Security officials believe the death toll could rise to 40 as the military is processing the scene, which includes student dormitories and classrooms.

Earlier, gunmen stormed the campus and opened fire on students and faculty. The incident occurred as Bacha Khan University was preparing to hold a poetry reading on the afternoon of January 20th. According to Vice-Chancellor Fazal Rahim, more than 3,000 students are currently enrolled at the university, and approximately 600 additional guests were expected to attend the event.
