(Baonghean) - Tuong Duong is a district with a large area of bamboo, rattan, and rattan. To exploit this potential, in recent years, the district has had a number of establishments processing bamboo chopsticks, weaving, and handicrafts with good results.

Bamboo chopsticks are dried before being imported to businesses.

A typical example is the chopsticks processing and manufacturing facility of Mr. Cao Anh Khoa in Cay Me village, Thach Giam commune. This facility produces over 10,000 pairs of chopsticks per day, mainly serving weddings, hotels, and restaurants in Vinh city and neighboring provinces. Every year, the facility produces over 50,000 pairs of chopsticks, with annual revenue of over 2 billion VND/year, creating jobs for 30-35 workers with salaries of 3.5-4 million VND/person/month.

In addition, to take advantage of the waste of the meter tree after producing chopsticks, Mr. Khoa also boldly bought machines and production lines to process raw materials and sell them to pulp processing facilities, annually processing and selling over 300 tons of raw materials to make pulp.

In addition, Mr. Vi Duc Tuan's family in Mon village, Thach Giam commune, Tuong Duong has purchased meters to produce toothpicks for Quy Chau incense production facilities and the southern provinces. Mr. Tuan shared: Tuong Duong area has abundant meter material source, meter price is cheap, only from 15,000-20,000 VND/tree. In September 2015, I invested over 300 million VND to build a production facility, including 4 toothpick scraping machines, each machine worth nearly 60 million VND. Each day, over 500 kg of finished toothpicks are produced (size depends on order), selling price is 10,000 VND/kg of finished toothpicks. The profit is calculated from 20-30 million VND/month, compared to raising livestock and farming, the income is higher".

At the Tuong Duong District Social Labor Education Center, for many years, students here have also been trained in handicrafts to improve their lives. The center has 12-15 students who regularly produce handicrafts using meter trees and rattan. The main products include rattan, souvenir stilt houses, and ethnic minority living utensils that are popular with customers.

People in Tam Quang commune cut bamboo to sell to bamboo chopsticks processing facilities.

According to the Department of Agriculture of Tuong Duong district, there are currently over 1,000 hectares of bamboo in the area, mainly concentrated in the communes of Tam Quang, Tam Dinh, Tam Thai, Thach Giam, Xa Luong, Yen Hoa, Yen Thang. Over 100 hectares of rattan in Yen Hoa and Yen Thang communes. The potential for raw materials to make handicrafts, bamboo chopsticks, and incense sticks is huge. Therefore, the district needs to have policies and mechanisms to promote production and processing, helping people escape poverty and stabilize their lives.
