6,000 youth union members participate in dredging irrigation canals

(Baonghean.vn) -On November 28, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the Provincial Youth Union, The People's Committees of Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu and Do Luong districts organized the launching ceremony of the peak period of drought prevention, dredging canals and repairing irrigation works.

In this campaign, in addition to the staff and workers of the Northern Irrigation Company, there were also 6,000 youth union members from communes, agencies and units in 4 districts.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, the youth union members of Yen Thanh Vocational College organized dredging at N20 canal, Bac Thanh commune.

The goal of this campaign is to continue raising awareness and consciousness of the entire population in the work of repairing irrigation works, focusing on dredging and repairing works to combat drought, ensuring timely water sources for production in 2016.

At the ceremony, Mr. Ho Ngoc Sy, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, requested localities to assign specific targets and tasks that are close to the actual situation of the locality. Focus on dredging and clearing main drainage axes, dredging intra-field drainage channels, maintaining machinery and electromechanical equipment, dredging suction tanks and channels leading to pumping stations.

It is expected that the dredging of this canal section will be completed on November 28-29.

By the afternoon of the same day, dredging forces at N2 Van Trang canal (Do Luong), N6 canal in Bac Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), N20 canal in Dien Hong commune (Dien Chau), and Nam Vuc Mau canal (Quynh Luu) had dredged 3,300 cubic meters of mud and soil.

The irrigation campaign is expected to last more than 50 days.
