Vinh City: Establishment of the Association of Soldiers of the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel

(Baonghean.vn) – On the morning of December 9th, the founding congress of the Association of Soldiers of the Quang Tri Citadel in 1972, for the term 2015 – 2020, was held in Vinh City.

Attending the congress were representatives from the leadership of Military Region IV, the Provincial Military Command, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the People's Committee of Vinh City, and various departments, agencies, and organizations; along with 250 delegates representing thousands of veterans who participated in and fought at Quang Tri Citadel in 1972.

Established under Decision No. 3858/QD-UBND of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, the Association is a voluntary social organization, bringing together members who are officers and soldiers of the armed forces and those who participated in the fighting and service during the 81 days and nights of defending the Quang Tri citadel in 1972, and who are currently living and working in Vinh City.

The purpose of the Association is to unite and bring together members to encourage mutual support in life, alleviate poverty, participate in activities of camaraderie and gratitude to martyrs; participate in the search for the remains of martyrs who died in the 1972 Quang Tri Citadel defense campaign; and to awaken and promote revolutionary traditions, enhance patriotism, and contribute to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The Congress discussed and set forth key directions and tasks for the 2015-2020 term.

The Executive Committee for the 2015-2020 term was introduced and assumed its duties before the Congress.

The founding congress of the Association of Soldiers of the Quang Tri Citadel in 1972 in Vinh City elected 21 comrades to the Executive Committee for the 2015-2020 term. Comrade Trinh Trong Dung - Head of the Steering Committee for the establishment of the Association of Soldiers of the Quang Tri Citadel in 1972 in Vinh City - was elected Chairman of the Association.
