More than 8,600 people died in traffic accidents in 2015

This year is the second consecutive year that the number of people killed in traffic accidents nationwide has dropped to below 9,000.

According to statistics from the National Traffic Safety Committee, there were more than 22,400 traffic accidents nationwide, killing more than 8,600 people and injuring 20,556 people, a decrease in all three criteria: number of accidents, number of deaths and number of injuries compared to the same period in 2014.

In 2015, while road traffic accidents decreased by more than 5% compared to 2014, especially railway traffic accidents were 261 cases, an increase of 58.18%, waterway accidents increased by 28.77% and maritime accidents increased by 43.75%, all quite high increases.

The overall number of deaths from traffic accidents nationwide has dropped below 9,000, but recently, traffic accidents on highways have increased.

Currently, the country has up to 500km of highways and will continue to increase in the coming time. This requires the authorities to soon come up with new solutions to limit traffic accidents.
