Previously, on November 15, the Working Group of the Environmental Police Department (Nghe An Provincial Police) caught three subjects red-handed using a homemade winch to winch wood from the forest gate at Khe Beng, in the upstream forest area of Pieng Cooc village, Mai Son commune (Tuong Duong district).

At the scene, the working group seized 26 wooden boards that had been cut into dong wood sets (each board was 3.5m long, 1m wide, 18cm thick), a winch, and a roll of iron cable. About 100m into the forest, the working group discovered 10 more wooden boards that had been cut in a stream and 2 tree stumps with a diameter of more than 1m that had been cut down.

The three illegal loggers are La Bon Tuong (born in 1984), residing in Son Ha village, Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong district; Lu Van Hung (born in 1974) and Lo Van Thuy (born in 1989), both residing in Na Kha village, Mai Son commune, Tuong Duong district. At the investigation agency, all three subjects stated that the above wood belonged to Kha Van Moong, currently the deputy police chief of Mai Son commune.

It is known that nearly a month before, the district and commune's joint inspection team had inspected the Pieng Cooc village forest and discovered 60 planks of wood that had been cut into dong by illegal loggers, but the team only made a record, numbered them, and then left without making a record of the confiscation to hand over the large amount of wood to the authorities. As a result, all of the wood "disappeared" from the scene, although this place was only 5-7 km from the commune center and Mai Son Border Guard Station.

Currently, the case is being further investigated and clarified by the authorities.
