At the U23 Asian Cup finals, a tournament that was considered too big for the current Vietnamese football situation, coach Toshiya Miura and his team lost all three matches and were eliminated early in the group stage. The Japanese coach was under a lot of pressure because he had previously set a goal of reaching the quarterfinals, in addition to many confusing decisions in the use of personnel, typically the decision to not let Tuan Anh play in the first two matches against U23 Jordan and U23 Australia.
Sharing with VnExpress, a leader of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said that right after returning from Qatar, Coach Miura asked for a few days off. The reason given by the Japanese strategist was “too tired”.
After returning, Coach Miura had to make a report on the recent performance of U23 Vietnam.
Coach Miura’s position is currently in serious jeopardy. His contract will expire in April, but the VFF has not yet discussed an extension. His future will be decided by the VFF Standing Committee. However, the VFF Standing Committee has not yet set a meeting date.
VFF said that there is a high possibility that there will be no firing. Coach Miura has only two months left on his contract, so it would be better to say goodbye by “not renewing”.
