Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton aim for victory in Michigan

According to AFP, Republican billionaire Donald Trump and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of the Democratic Party are aiming to consolidate their leading positions in the race for the US presidential nomination when the four states of Michigan, Mississippi, Idaho and Hawaii begin holding primary elections on March 8.

Polls in Michigan and Mississippi opened at 12:00 GMT, while Republicans will also vote in Idaho and Hawaii.

According to polls, both Mr. Trump and Mrs. Hillary are leading by a safe margin in Michigan, where Republican candidates are competing for 59 delegates and Democratic candidates are competing for 130 delegates.

There are no recent polls in Mississippi, but last month, Mr. Trump was still far ahead of his rivals.

On the Democratic side, Mrs. Hillary is the number 1 candidate as African-American voters play an important role in the election in this state. More than 80% of African-Americans chose Mrs. Hillary in other southern states.

The number of Republican delegates in Mississippi is 40 and the Democratic Party is 36./.
