Despite setting records at box offices around the world, the blockbuster "Star Wars"'s revenue in Vietnam only ranked second after "Em la ba noi cua anh".

Last weekend, part 7 of the legendary film series “Star Wars – Chiến tranh trung sao” (The Force Awakens) opened with a “huge” revenue of 517 million USD worldwide, dominating the box office revenue in markets such as North America, UK, Australia, Russia… However, surprisingly, the box office revenue of this Hollywood blockbuster only ranked 2nd in two Asian markets, Korea and Vietnam.

According to The Hollywoodreporter, in Vietnam, the movie that “surpassed” the revenue of “Star Wars” was “Em la ba noi cua anh” – a remake of the Korean movie “Miss Granny”. Although Disney did not announce the official revenue of “Star Wars” at the Vietnamese box office, it also admitted that this blockbuster was not the most popular movie here last weekend.

“Em là bà nội của anh” đạt doanh thu 41,5 tỉ đồng
"You Are My Grandmother" achieved revenue of 41.5 billion VND

Although it has been released for more than a week, “Em la ba noi cua anh” still holds the No. 1 position at the Vietnamese box office with the number of viewers and revenue in the second week being higher than the first week of release, although the number of screenings has decreased by 30% to make way for other newly released films. After 10 days of release, the romantic comedy “Em la ba noi cua anh” has earned 41.5 billion VND. The film stars a cast of young and beautiful Vietnamese actors such as Miu Le, Hua Vy Van, Ngo Kien Huy...

At the Korean box office, “Star Wars” is the second highest-grossing film after “The Himalayas”. Director Lee Seok-hoon’s film earned $8.7 million after four days of release, while “Star Wars” earned $7.9 million over the same period./.
