Murdered wife, sentenced to 12 years in prison

(Baonghean.vn)- After telling his wife to bring the children home for dinner but being refused, Tu went to his maternal grandparents' house to talk. There, he used a knife to take his wife's life and then committed suicide.

On the morning of January 8, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the murder case against Huynh Trung Tu (born in 1989, residing in Minh Hop commune, Quy Hop).

According to the indictment, Tu and Ms. Tang Thi Hien (born 1995) got married in 2014 and had a son. In August 2015, Ms. Hien filed for divorce at the District People's Court. The court held two conciliations but failed. In September 2015, Ms. Hien took her son to live with her parents.

On the afternoon of October 7, 2015, Tu called his wife and told her to bring the child home to visit because he was going to work far away, but Hien did not agree. At 9:00 p.m. the same day, Tu went to his wife's parents' house in Nghia Son commune (Nghia Dan) to visit his child. At that time, Tu's parents-in-law were away, Hien opened the door for Tu to come in but said "why come down now". Believing that his wife did not respect him, Tu took a fruit knife from the gas stove and forced Hien out into the yard. After that, Tu threw the fruit knife and then took a kitchen knife and stabbed Hien in the right chest, forcing the victim against the bathroom wall.

At this time, Hien's parents and uncle came home and saw him, tried to stop him, and persuaded Tu to put the knife down, but Tu did not listen. Tu used a kitchen knife to stab his wife once in the right chest, then pulled out the knife and stabbed himself in the chest. The two injured people fell down. Seeing that the knife was still stuck in Tu's chest while both Tu and Hien were unconscious, everyone called an ambulance. Suddenly, Tu woke up, pulled the knife out of his chest, and stabbed Hien repeatedly, causing the victim to die later. Tu was seriously injured.

At the trial, Tu said he still loved his wife and did not want a divorce. During their time together, the two had no major conflicts. Tu also did not know why his wife wanted a divorce and wanted to reconcile.

The defendant also expressed remorse for taking his wife’s life and asked for forgiveness from his wife’s family. He also asked his wife’s parents to help Tu take care of and raise their son until he completes his prison term.

Considering the case in its entirety, the panel sentenced Huynh Trung Tu to 12 years in prison and ordered the defendant to compensate the victim 200 million VND according to the previous agreement between the two parties.
