(Baonghean.vn)- Once a poor village, lacking food all year round, now with its own efforts to rise up, Luan Hong village (in Dong Van commune, Thanh Chuong district) is among the most prosperous and richest villages in the commune. To make that change, Luan Hong village has found a new direction - that is to develop the weaving profession.
Currently, the village has 130 households with 550 people, of which 70 households participate in producing bamboo products such as chicken cages and household items. |
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Niem: The village's weaving profession has been established for a long time but has developed strongly since 2008. What is special is that in the past, weaving was only considered a side job, people often did it in their spare time, but now it has become the main source of income. |
The raw material for making the products is bamboo. Old bamboo is used to make the slats, and young bamboo is used to make the strips. This is a profession that requires the craftsman to have truly skillful hands. |
The technique of splitting bamboo requires knowing how to use a knife to make the thickness even and flat, so that the weaving will be beautiful. In addition, the raw materials must be carefully stored in a dry place to avoid termites. Not to mention, bamboo is very white in the sun, but when it rains, it becomes moldy, sometimes the bamboo must be dried, or even soaked to prevent termites... |
From a sideline job, up to now, the people of Luan Hong village have identified this as an indispensable main job. Because each worker earns from 2.5 to 3 million VND/month from the weaving profession. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dai, Vice Chairman of Dong Van Commune People's Committee, said: On February 30, 2012, Luan Hong weaving village was recognized as a craft village, which encourages people to be more "passionate" about the profession and follow it. |
According to current statistics, on average each household sells 2,000 bamboo baskets per year (at a price of 18,000 VND/piece), mainly to Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Do Luong districts, and even Con Cuong, Tuong Duong... |
And even Vinh city also has products from Luan Hong craft village. |
