On February 25 and 26, at T16 Detention Center - Ministry of Public Security, the People's Court of Thai Nguyen province opened a mobile first-instance trial for two defendants: Nguyen Viet Hoa (40 years old), residing in Group 9, Tan Lap Ward and Dong Van Bich (37 years old), residing in Group 25, Hoang Van Thu Ward, both in Thai Nguyen City, were prosecuted for murder, property destruction and illegal use of explosives.

Before that, at around 2:00 a.m. on January 7, 2012, Hoa went to the area near Mai Dan Hotel, Hoang Van Thu Ward, Thai Nguyen City and called Bich to meet him. Hoa gave Bich a mine in a plastic bag and told Bich to burn it at house number 191, Luong Ngoc Quyen Street. Bich knew that it was the house of comrade Nguyen Nhu Tuan, Director of Thai Nguyen Provincial Police.

After that, Hoa went back to the office to sleep. Bich brought the mine to the door of house 191, Luong Ngoc Quyen street, got out of the car, lit the fuse, pushed the mine deep into the door, then got back in the car to go home to sleep. The mine exploded, damaging the property of comrade Tuan's family and 62 surrounding households with a total loss of over 1.7 billion VND, without causing any human casualties...

After questioning the defendants, witnesses and interested parties, at the end of the trial, the People's Court of Thai Nguyen province sentenced the two defendants Nguyen Viet Hoa and Dong Van Bich to life in prison for murder, 15 years in prison for property destruction, and 3 years in prison for illegal use of explosives. The total sentence for all three crimes against the two defendants is life in prison.

Regarding civil liability, each defendant must pay the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen City more than VND 847 million. The People's Committee of Thai Nguyen City spent this amount to remedy the consequences for 62 households that suffered damage.

It is known that previously, on March 11, 2015, Nguyen Viet Hoa was sentenced by the People's Court of Ninh Binh province to 22 years in prison for the crimes of "Abusing power to appropriate property" and "Slander".

Dong Van Bich has a previous conviction for theft. Bich is currently serving a 21-year and 6-month prison sentence for the crimes of gambling, organizing gambling, extortion, and illegal possession of explosives.
