Indian air base near Pakistan attacked.
Early on January 2nd, a group of gunmen attacked an Indian Air Force base in Punjab state, bordering Pakistan. Blood was spilled.
Indian media reported that two of the attackers were killed in a shootout with security forces, but two to three others were hiding inside a building in the base area. The attackers had stolen police vehicles to use in the attack and were all wearing Indian military uniforms.

According to initial reports, this attack bears many similarities to an attack on a border town in Punjab in 2015, which killed nine people. India subsequently blamed that attack on militants who had infiltrated from Pakistan.
According to assessments, the latest attack on the Indian Air Force base has dealt a major blow to efforts to restore political dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors in South Asia following Indian Prime Minister Modi's surprise visit to meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif in late December 2015.
