64 people died in traffic accidents during the 3-day Tet holiday.

Comparing traffic accidents during the 3 days of the 29th, 1st and 2nd of the Lunar New Year of the Fire Monkey 2016 with the same period of the 3 days of the Lunar New Year of the Fire Goat 2015, the number of accidents, deaths and injuries decreased sharply, and no particularly serious accidents occurred.

Specifically: the number of cases decreased from 182 to 104 cases (a decrease of 78 cases, equivalent to a decrease of 43%); The number of deaths decreased from 107 to 64 people (a decrease of 43 people, equivalent to a decrease of 41%); The number of injured people decreased from 157 to 98 people (a decrease of 59 people, equivalent to a decrease of 38%).

During the past three days of Tet, the National Traffic Safety Committee's hotline received about 70 calls and messages from people.

The content reflects the situation of passenger transport such as: arbitrarily increasing ticket prices, charging surcharges higher than regulations, overcrowding passengers on some short routes; local congestion, charging parking fees higher than regulations in temple areas, service business areas in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In Hanoi, the situation of motorcyclists having poor awareness, not wearing helmets, riding in threes or fours, weaving in and out, going the wrong way, running red lights, and not complying with traffic safety laws is very common.

The National Traffic Safety Committee requests that provincial and municipal police mobilize maximum traffic police forces to coordinate with other police forces (public order police, communal police...) to step up patrols and controls, and strictly handle violations of traffic safety and order.

Special attention will be paid to handling violations of alcohol concentration regulations; speeding violations; not wearing helmets when riding motorbikes, scooters, and electric bicycles. At the same time, timely handling of information reflecting from people about traffic order and safety and passenger transport activities via the Tet hotline number./.
