CNN made a fatal mistake when it confused Australia with Austria.

The popular television channel CNN just made a serious geographical mistake when it ran a news headline that said “Australia is building a fence on its border with Slovenia.”

The reason for this confusion is believed to be because the names Australia and Austria are spelled quite similarly.

However, for those who know that Australia is 14,000 km away from Europe, this news is completely unreasonable.

And the people responsible for running text on CNN's screens probably need to brush up on their geography knowledge.

The exact date of the broadcast is still unclear, as the construction of the fence on the Slovenian border was announced in November 2015 and remains a controversial topic.

CNN editors aren't the only ones who confused Austria with Australia.

When typing the phrase “Austria and Australia” into Google, the most asked question is “Are Austria and Australia the same country?”

Of course the answer is no, because Austrians cannot confront sharks or chase spiders with their bare hands like Australians./.
