“I don’t know if it will happen today, but they (S-300 missiles) will be delivered (to Iran),” the news agency quoted Zamir Kabulov, an official at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In 2007, Russia and Iran signed an $800 million deal in which Moscow agreed to sell five S-300 missile systems to Iran. However, the contract was suspended in 2010 under a UN Security Council resolution.
In February this year, TASS news agency quoted a source saying that Iran was also looking to buy the Russian-made S-400 Triumph air-to-air missile system.
In addition, the country also wants to purchase Sukhoi Su-30SM (Flanker-C) multi-role fighter jets, along with other military equipment such as Bastion (SSC-5 Stooge) coastal defense missile systems, Yakovlev Yak-130 (Mitten) training aircraft, Mi-8/17 (Hip) armed helicopters, and diesel-electric destroyers and attack submarines.
In March, Sergei Chemezov, head of the Russian defense corporation Rostec, told RIA news site that the first delivery of the S-300 air defense missile system to Iran would take place in August or September this year.
