Traffic accidents decrease sharply during 9 days of Tet holiday

(Baonghean.vn) - According to information from the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, from December 28 to the end of January 7 of the Lunar New Year, there were 7 traffic accidents in the province, killing 6 people and injuring 6 others. Nghe An is one of the localities with a sharp decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents (down 8 people) compared to the 2015 Lunar New Year.

Compared to the same period of the Lunar New Year 2015, traffic accidents decreased in all three criteria: number of accidents, number of deaths and number of injuries. Specifically, traffic accidents decreased by 5 cases (41.67%), 8 deaths (51.14%), and 6 injuries (50%).

Seven traffic accidents occurred during the Lunar New Year this year in the districts of Quynh Luu, Thai Hoa Town, Que Phong, Thanh Chuong, Tan Ky, Nghi Loc and Dien Chau.

Mr. Vo Minh Duc - Chief of Office of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee assessed: “Thanks to the drastic direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the active participation of relevant departments and localities in implementing traffic safety clearance, opening turns, and reasonable traffic flow. The police force and traffic inspectors were strengthened at key intersections, which partly reduced congestion; contributing to reducing traffic accidents during the recent Tet holiday. This year in particular, the number of people killed in traffic accidents decreased significantly (8 people less) compared to Tet 2015 and there were no railway and waterway traffic accidents”.

During the 9-day Tet holiday, the authorities also issued administrative fines for 396 cases of traffic safety violations, including 136 passenger cars, 156 cars and 240 motorbikes; temporarily detained 105 vehicles of various types; and collected a fine of 75 million VND.
