(Baonghean.vn) -No job, no money, his wife is seriously ill, all of that has pushed Hua's life to the brink.(Ky Son-Nghe An)into a long, hopeless slide through drug trafficking.

Even when standing in front of the bar, Ha Ba Hua, a Mong man in Ky Son, did not blame anyone, did not argue with the viewpoint or sentence that the representative of the Provincial People's Procuracy held the right to prosecute at the trial.

The last words of a criminal facing the highest penalty of the law are the heartfelt confessions of a bachelor of education.

Hua is the eldest in a family of 6 siblings. Although life was difficult, his parents did not let him and his siblings drop out of school. Loving his parents, Hua tried hard to study and achieved the title of excellent student at the provincial level. After graduating from high school, Hua took the entrance exam to Hanoi Pedagogical University to realize his dream of becoming a teacher to teach children in the village.

After graduating from university, Hua returned to his hometown with his degree, carrying with him the dreams and ambitions of his youth. But after much struggle, Hua still could not find a job. Then Hua got married. Both husband and wife were unemployed, Hua's father bought them a motorbike. Every day Hua went to get goods for his wife to sell at the border market. Life went on peacefully until Hua was told by the doctor that Hua's wife had an ovarian cyst, making it very difficult for her to have children. And that was the beginning of a turning point in Hua's life.

Hua ran around borrowing money to take his wife to get treatment everywhere, but the money was gone and his wife's condition did not improve much. Furthermore, the doctor said that one of his wife's ovaries had to be removed, otherwise it would lead to unpredictable complications. Although he felt sorry for his wife, because he had no money, Hua was helpless and had to take his wife home.

In early 2014, Hua went to Laos to work and accidentally met a man named Kham. Knowing Hua's situation, Kham confided in Hua, asking him to find someone to buy heroin for him, and for each successful sale, Kham would pay Hua 2,000 USD. In his desperation, Hua agreed.

Around March 2015, Hua returned to Vietnam, took his wife to the city for a medical check-up and met Hoang Van Quang (born in 1973, residing in Xuan Son commune, Do Luong, Nghe An). From there, a drug trafficking ring from Laos to Nghe An and then to Ho Chi Minh City was established. Hua's task was to take the goods from Kham and transport them to Vietnam and deliver them to Quang so that Quang could bring the goods to Ho Chi Minh City for sale. Each time, Hua pocketed 2,000 USD in wages.

By the third case, the drug ring was cut off. Ha Ba Hua and Hoang Van Quang were caught red-handed when Hua was delivering 8 heroin cakes to Quang on the street near Quang's house. Based on Hua and Quang's statements, the investigation agency determined that from March to August 2015, these two subjects had participated in the purchase and sale of 20 heroin cakes weighing nearly 7kg. With an especially large amount of drugs, the representative of the Provincial People's Procuracy proposed the highest sentence for Ha Ba Hua and Hoang Van Quang: the death penalty.

Facing the death sentence, Ha Ba Hua was troubled by one thing: His parents raised him but he had not fulfilled his filial duty. If his wife could give birth, she would still have a future, but now that she cannot give birth, there is no future left.

"I beg the court to consider giving the defendant a chance to live to atone for his mistakes, to support his parents and to take care of and be a support for his wife," Hua said in court.

Mr. Vi Van Chat - Chairman of the trial commented: Hua's criminal behavior partly stemmed from the fact that he was unemployed and his wife was seriously ill. However, difficulties cannot be used to justify Hua's criminal behavior, because the amount of drugs that Hua participated in trafficking was very large, pushing many people into addiction, destroying many families, and must be permanently eliminated from social life.

Thus, Hua’s path to life was gradually closing, and the hope of curing his wife’s illness was also forever lost. Hua kept a calm face as he was escorted out of the court, but I knew that inside Hua’s heart was a storm as his wife, who “had no future,” silently left the court.
