Receiving reports from some residents about gambling problems that often occur at the house of Mr. Nguyen Van Thu in Kim Chi hamlet, Do Thanh commune (Yen Thanh). The participants are not only local residents but also come from neighboring districts such as Dien Chau, Quynh Luu... and often hire taxis as a means of transportation. The Criminal Investigation Police Department of the Provincial Police assigned detectives from Team 8 to verify and clarify.

After determining that the above information was well-founded, a plan to break into Mr. Nguyen Van Thu's house and catch the gamblers red-handed was quickly drawn up. A task force of 6 detectives led by Lieutenant Colonel Tran Hoang Ky, captain of Team 8, quickly arrived at Do Thanh commune. However, when the detectives arrived at the scene, they received information that the gambling group that usually gathered at Mr. Thu's house had just gone elsewhere to gamble.

During the investigation, the identities of some subjects who often gambled at Mr. Nguyen Van Thu's house were identified by detectives, including Le Van Phuong (born in 1980), Nguyen Van Lanh (born in 1979), both residing in Do Thanh commune, and several other subjects.

While the police were expanding their investigation, they received information that on the night of April 4, a gambling group consisting of people from Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, and Quynh Luu would return to Mr. Thu's house to continue gambling, with one person carrying about 50-60 million VND.

Considering the complex and reckless nature of the subjects, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Hoang Ky requested the unit leaders to increase their forces to arrest the gambling group. After receiving instructions from the provincial police leaders, on the night of April 4, Colonel Pham Hoai Nam, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, directed and sent 4 detectives to Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district to participate in arresting the gambling group.

After nearly 1 hour of ambush, at around 10 pm on April 4, the detectives discovered about a dozen people "gathering" to gamble at Mr. Nguyen Van Thu's house.

Mr. Thu's house is located in an alley, has two frontages, many alleys, and is densely populated, making access extremely difficult. However, seeing that the opportunity to catch the inter-district gambling group had come, the plan to catch the gambling group was quickly implemented.

Using sharp professional measures, two reconnaissance teams approached Mr. Thu's house and quickly broke into the house, catching the group of people gambling with each other.

They are Pham Thi Luyen (born in 1973), Le Van Hoa (born in 1987); Le Van Phuong (born in 1980); Nguyen Van Lanh (born in 1979), all residing in Yen Thanh district, and two professional gamblers from Dien Chau district: Cao Minh Thoa (born in 1982); Nguyen Hung (born in 1998).

Before the sudden appearance of the reconnaissance force, some subjects took advantage of the late night and darkness, some subjects disregarded the danger and crossed the B40 mesh fence and the fence with broken glass to escape. Evidence seized at the mat and on the subjects included 159 million VND. Of which, Pham Thi Luyen alone had 65 million VND in cash.

This is an inter-district gambling case with evidence of a large amount of cash that occurred in Yen Thanh rice district. Currently, the authorities are continuing to expand the investigation to clarify the case and arrest the related subjects.
