In early April 2016, Thai Hoa Town Police received a report from a local resident that a person pretended to borrow their motorbike and then stole it. According to the victims, the subject was a girl around 18 years old, saying she was from Nghia Dan. This subject often approached the victims and then lured them into a motel to talk. Once they trusted him, he pretended to borrow the motorbike to go shopping. When he didn't return the motorbike, the victims were shocked to realize they had been scammed.

After receiving the report, the Thai Hoa town police force quickly sketched the suspect, isolated the area and checked for suspects with criminal records in the area. However, because the suspect operated in a sophisticated manner and over a large area, the investigation was extremely difficult.

In the following days, many people continued to come to the police station to report that there were scammers using similar methods. Therefore, the police force of Thai Hoa town determined that this was a complicated case, the perpetrators acted in an organized manner, so they decided to establish Project 0416L to combat this type of fraud crime.

During the verification process, the task force divided into many reconnaissance teams, using many professional measures, conducted an extensive search both inside and outside the town. At about 3:00 p.m. on April 8, at km32, National Highway 48, through Block 8, Long Son Ward, Thai Hoa Town, the police force discovered Nguyen Thi Nhat (residing in Hamlet 4, Nghia An Commune, Nghia Dan District) using an Air blade motorbike, license plate 37H1 - 189.50, which showed suspicious signs.

During the inspection, Nhat could not prove the origin of the assets and admitted that these were assets obtained through fraud. Nhat was on his way to sell the motorbike when he was arrested by the authorities. Based on Nhat's statement, the authorities continued to arrest the second subject named Nguyen Van Huy (residing in Bac Son hamlet, Tam Hop commune, Quy Hop) while Huy was in Vinh city.

It is known that Nguyen Thi Nhat is only 17 years old this year. Although she is a girl, Nhat is famous for being playful and competitive. After studying in grade 9, Nhat dropped out of school and followed her friends to hang out, cause trouble, and have fun. While running away from home, Nhat met Nguyen Van Huy. When they spent all the money they stole from their family, Nhat and Huy planned to defraud and sell other people's property to have money to spend.

According to the plan, Nhat hung around coffee shops and restaurants to approach young men with pitiful stories about his own situation that he made up himself. After talking to his heart’s content, Nhat proactively suggested that the victims go to a motel together… When he felt trustworthy enough, Nhat asked to borrow his motorbike for a while… then left and never returned.

At the investigation agency, Nhat and Huy confessed to having committed 6 cases of fraud and property appropriation in Thai Hoa town, Quy Hop district and Nghia Dan district. The spoils of the 2 subjects were 5 motorbikes and 1 Oppo mobile phone with a total value of nearly 90 million VND.

The case is currently under investigation by the authorities.
