South Korea warned that it will respond strongly and uncompromisingly to North Korea after North Korea threatened to attack the South Korean presidential palace.

The South Korean Unification Ministry in a statement on March 23 stressed that if North Korea carries out any aggressive actions, South Korean forces will respond and North Korea will have to bear the consequences of these actions.

The South Korean Unification Ministry also said it will never forgive North Korea's nuclear tests and long-range missile launches, which are considered threats to peace on the Korean peninsula as well as around the world.

Earlier the same day, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) published a statement from the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK) threatening to launch retaliatory attacks on the South Korean presidential office in response to the ongoing joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States.

Accordingly, these attacks will start from the South Korean President's office, or nearby locations. North Korea emphasized that once the button of the new multiple rocket launcher system is pressed, the South Korean President's office will be "engulfed in a sea of fire and ashes".

North Korea's statement came as South Korea and the US began annual joint military exercises on March 7.

The “Key Resolve” exercise ended on March 18 while the “Foal Eagle” exercise will last until April 30./.
