Nam Dan: Building a model new rural area

In front of Hong 1 hamlet, Kim Lien commune, there is a large model field of 400 hectares of NA2 rice, green as far as the eye can see. The fields are no longer fragmented, stretching as far as the eye can see; the highlands that lack water and are often left fallow have now become colorful flower fields and vegetable fields with high income. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huong, 50 years old, stopped cutting crystal chrysanthemums and happily said: "Growing flowers brings in several times more income than growing rice. Last Tet, after deducting all expenses, my family earned a profit of several tens of millions of dong. Many people developing the flower growing profession, such as Mr. Pham Duc Binh's family in Mau 6 hamlet, built greenhouses and grew high-quality flowers."

This season, clean cucumber fields bring a good income to Kim Lien people. According to Ms. Huong, clean cucumber production cannot keep up with the market demand. Cultivation in Kim Lien is gradually changing and shifting, and so is animal husbandry. The whole commune currently has 28 farms and ranches that are gradually becoming standardized. For example, the 12,700m2 farm of Mr. Nguyen Van Hau in Mau 4 hamlet has invested billions of VND to build a closed-cold system to replace the previous open barn to ensure environmental hygiene.

Kim Lien is becoming more and more modern and clean. In 2014, the commune was recognized as meeting new rural standards, 100% of the commune roads were concreted. Now entering the construction of a model new rural area, Kim Lien has an additional 6.5 km of new standard roads that are wider and thicker. Mr. Tran Quang Loc - Vice Chairman of Kim Lien Commune People's Committee shared: Besides expanding the road, there is also investment in building civil works. In 2015, a new medical station worth 3.5 billion VND was completed. This year, the new Lang Sen Kindergarten has just started construction.

The homeland has changed, everyone is happy. Mr. Ho Van Hung - Head of Hong 1 Hamlet confided: The biggest progress is the improved thinking. Kim Lien people are all aware of the necessity of the Movement to build "New Nam Dan People" as well as the effective promotion of traditional cultural values. We have improved our behavioral culture by following the example of the tour guides of Kim Lien Relic Site. From the results of building behavioral culture, the commune has focused on developing the service and tourism industries around Uncle Ho Memorial Site, Chung Son Temple, Dat Pagoda, General Nguyen Dac Dai Temple...

Nam Dan currently has 167 relics and scenic spots; in addition to Kim Lien relic site, there are also Mai King Temple, Phan Boi Chau Memorial House, Luc Nien citadel, Trang Den lake, Dai Tue pagoda, Nhan Thap temple. The district has formed branded culinary products such as Nam Dan soy sauce, Sa Nam rice cake, Nam Nghia tamarind meat, Cau Don goat, Nam Thai hill chicken, Lam river sardines and mussels, tapioca flour, Nam Anh perch, Bau Non perch. Now, with the tourism linkage of Vinh - Cua Lo - Nam Dan, Nghe An with other provinces, tourism will certainly create a new momentum.

Mr. Nguyen Lam Son - Deputy Secretary of Nam Dan District Party Committee shared: The focus of development is comprehensive and sustainable agricultural economy; Promote attracting investment projects into industrial clusters; develop craft villages in the direction of large-scale concentration; implement well the investment attraction mechanism to develop tourism, develop services in a comprehensive and multi-industry direction.

New thinking and determination are bringing Nam Dan into a new era. Going back to Uncle Ho's hometown these days, we see everywhere the streets are decorated with bright and bustling flags and banners; the village roads and alleys are clean and tidy. Each person and each household has the habit of beautifying and cultivating the landscape of their hometown... On the village loudspeaker system, we remind each other about environmental sanitation, security and order, traffic safety to celebrate the major holidays of the country and the nation, especially Uncle Ho's birthday and the upcoming election day of National Assembly and People's Council deputies at all levels...
