(Baonghean.vn) - The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, 94, welcomed US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama when their Marine One helicopter landed on the lawn of Windsor Castle, about 32 km west of London.
After their conversation, they boarded the Queen's Range Rover, driven by the 94-year-old Prince, and were taken to the royal residence, the home of the British royal family for nearly 1,000 years.
The main purpose of Obama's visit to the UK this time is to show support for the country's bid to remain in the European Union (EU) ahead of the referendum on membership in June.
However, this also gave Obama the opportunity to meet the Queen of England for the third time, following a state visit with his wife in 2011 and a private meeting in 2009.
Queen Elizabeth II, currently the oldest monarch in British history, celebrated her 90th birthday on April 21st by taking a stroll in Windsor and meeting thousands of people. She has met 11 presidents since ascending the throne in 1952.
