A few days ago, the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management also took samples of fresh bamboo shoots and pickled cabbage at markets and food processing facilities in the city and sent them to the laboratory analysis center of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City to test for the banned substance yellow o.

Accordingly, in 9 samples of Da Nang bamboo shoots sent to the Center for Analysis and Testing, only 2 samples of natural white bamboo shoots did not have yellow residue, while 7 samples of fresh yellow bamboo shoots were all found to have yellow residue.

The Da Nang Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management has just discovered pickled melons containing the banned substance yellow o.

These everyday dishes found to contain this banned substance inevitably make consumers worried because they are all favorite dishes of Vietnamese people.

According to the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), amber is ranked 5th among the 116 leading carcinogens in the world.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued Circular 42 on the additional list of chemicals and antibiotics banned from import, production, trading and use in livestock and poultry feed in Vietnam. In which, 5 types of yellow substances are added: Vat Yellow 1, Vat Yellow 2, Vat Yellow 3, Vat Yellow 4 and Auramine.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duy Thinh, former staff of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology, said that yellow ochre is a chemical used to dye fabrics and make lime for wall painting in construction.

This is a toxic substance to the human body, not used in food, even in animal husbandry this substance is banned because it is harmful to human health when eating foods containing this substance residue.

Eating food containing amber can cause acute poisoning, causing stomach ache, vomiting, sore throat, diarrhea... in the long term it can harm the body's organs.

Previously, chicken, goose, and duck meat were very popular in family meals, but the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also discovered that the substance Vang O was mixed into animal feed to create an attractive yellow skin color for poultry.

To protect health, experts recommend that people be careful when choosing food. People can identify bamboo shoots soaked in chemicals such as yellow mustard or sulfur when smelling them, they will feel the chemical smell in their nose.

Bamboo shoots without chemicals are slightly dark black due to being soaked in salt, while bamboo shoots soaked in chemicals are pure white or deep yellow due to being soaked in gold powder. With the naked eye, if you see that the bamboo shoots have a smooth, shiny appearance, you should not buy them.

When processing, with all types of bamboo shoots purchased, people should soak them in water for a while, then boil them thoroughly and drain the water before processing. This will evaporate the toxins present in the bamboo shoots, especially in fresh bamboo shoots, and also make the bamboo shoots softer.

For poultry, the best way to choose safe food is to buy live poultry from reputable places. When choosing ready-to-eat poultry products, choose those that are light yellow in color, without the smell of antibiotics or foul odors.

Poultry contaminated with antibiotics is a bright yellow color but the fat is white. Consumers can test this by squeezing a little lemon juice or salt water. If the chicken skin changes color, it is due to dyeing. Pickled cabbage contaminated with yellow mustard also often has an unusual bright yellow color and a strange smell.
