Panama Papers: Information on Vietnamese individuals and businesses will be released soon
(Baonghean.vn) - On May 10, in a move to clarify the truth about the information about NDH and SSI in the Panama dossier, Saigon Securities Incorporation (SSI) sent information to the press about this issue.
Accordingly, SSI is one of the first private securities companies operating in Vietnam since 1999, operating in all four major financial service areas including securities services, investment fund management, investment banking services, capital resources and financial trading.
SSI and Nguyen Duy Hung Company Limited are two capital contributors of SSI Member Investment Fund managed by SSI Fund Management Company Limited (SSIAM). SSIAM and SSI Member Investment Fund are granted Overseas Investment Certificates by the Ministry of Planning and Investment to carry out overseas investment activities.

Since the time of being granted the Overseas Investment Certificate, SSIAM has carried out overseas investment activities in full compliance with the provisions of Vietnamese law, international law and the law of the country where SSIAM carries out investment activities and has not had any activities related to tax evasion, money laundering or any other violations of the law.
SSIAM fully fulfills its financial obligations to the Vietnamese State, as well as to the host countries where SSIAM conducts overseas investment activities. Appearing in the Panama Papers list does not mean that the company and its legal representatives have engaged in tax evasion or money laundering, SSI said.
At another company, at noon on May 10, Sovico Holdings, the parent company of Vietjet Air, issued a press release explaining why Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, CEO of Vietjet Air, was named in the Panama Papers.
Accordingly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is related to Ariana Hotels & Resort International, headquartered in the British Virgin Islands - the former owner of Furama Resort, the real estate that Sovico invested in and bought back in 2005. Sovico's investment in Vietnam and the purchase of Furama Resort from a foreign corporation is a normal activity - a statement from Sovico Holdings confirmed.
According to the prestigious economic news agency Bloomberg, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, CEO of Vietjet Air, could become the first female USD billionaire in Vietnam, the first self-made female billionaire in Southeast Asia.
With the move of the state management agency, on the afternoon of May 10, information from the General Department of Taxation said that since the incident occurred, the tax agency has conducted screening and today, the Tax sector has reported specifically to the Ministry of Finance, when approved, it will be publicly announced in the next few days.
Nguyen Van Phung, Director of the Department of Large Enterprise Tax Management - General Department of Taxation, said that there are many forms of tax evasion by enterprises. The main issue is still to improve the capacity of tax officials to monitor domestic and foreign enterprises while procedures are being increasingly simplified./.
