The US Department of Defense announced on April 28 that its military is seeking to cut off ISIS's internet access in order to weaken the terrorist organization.
Speaking before the US Senate Armed Services Committee, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter stated that the first large-scale cyberattacks were conducted by the US Cyber Command (Cybercom).

This is one of the units that played a crucial role in the international coalition's airstrike campaigns led by the US in Iraq and Syria.
The goal of these attacks was to cripple IS's internet network, cut off its money transfer lines, and limit the organization's recruitment through social media.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, added that the coalition will implement a combination of measures simultaneously to achieve the goal of isolating and weakening ISIS terrorists.
