New Governor from Ha Tinh is the youngest in Vietnam's history

New Governor of the State Bank was appointed at the age of 46.

With 403 votes in favor (81.58%) and 83 votes against (16.8%), Mr. Le Minh Hung was elected Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam according to the proposal of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Before being appointed to the new position, he was a member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Chief of the Party Central Committee Office.

Born in 1970, Mr. Hung is the youngest governor in the history of Vietnam's banking industry at the age of 46.

Governor Le Minh Hung is from Son Tan, Huong Son, Ha Tinh, and is the son of the late Minister of Public Security Le Minh Huong.Mr. Hung's working process began in 1993 and he has held many different positions, but most of his time was spent with the State Bank.

In 1993, he started working as a specialist at the International Monetary Fund, International Relations Department of the State Bank of Vietnam. During his 5 years working here, he attended courses on market economics and financial analysis of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) when the course was held at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, China. In addition, he also studied and obtained a master's degree in economics at Saitama University, Japan.

In 1998, Mr. Hung was appointed to the position of Deputy Head of Department and then Head of Department, Asian Development Bank, International Cooperation Department and held this position until 2002.

Seven years later, in 2009, he became Director of the Department of International Cooperation and one year later, a member of the Party Committee, Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel, State Bank.

From 2011 to 2014, he was a member of the Party Executive Committee and Deputy Governor. From November 2014 until his appointment as Governor, Mr. Hung was Deputy Chief of the Party Central Office. At the 12th National Congress of the Party, he was elected to the Party Central Executive Committee.
