Alarming increase in child marriage in Quy Hop.

(Baonghean.vn) - Faced with the alarming situation of child marriage occurring in the area, the Standing Committee of the Quy Hop District Party Committee has just issued a directive on strengthening the Party's leadership in the prevention and control of child marriage in the district during the period 2015-2020.·

According to statistics from Quy Hop district, nearly 40 cases of child marriage occur in the area each year. Communes with high rates of child marriage include: Chau Thanh (7 cases in 2012, 4 cases in 2015), Chau Quang (5 cases between 2012 and 2015), and Lien Hop (7 cases).

The number of divorces has increased annually (101 in 2010, rising to 132 in 2015). Many cases involve couples living together without a marriage certificate. Between 2010 and 2015, 13 cases of unregistered marriages resulted in divorce, and the age of divorce is becoming younger.

The total number of abortions performed at the district hospital in 2015 was 98. The situation is that children, especially girls of school age, are being forced by their families to drop out of school to get married. Many cases involve underage marriages, which are not accepted by the authorities, who "request a postponement" until they reach the legal age. As a result, many children are born without timely birth certificates, not only depriving women and children of their rights but also significantly impacting the quality of life, population and family quality, social labor quality, and the socio-economic development of the locality.

In response to this situation, the Standing Committee of the Quy Hop District Party Committee issued a Directive on strengthening the Party's leadership in the prevention and control of child marriage in the district during the period 2015-2020.

The directive outlines seven tasks, assigning them to specialized agencies, departments, and sectors for implementation; the central task being to strengthen propaganda, dissemination, and raise awareness about preventing child marriage and consanguineous marriage in the area.
