Arrested for smuggling 600 grams of gold in rectum

A man was arrested at Bangladesh's Dhaka airport for attempting to smuggle six 600-gram gold bars by hiding them in his rectum.

According to BBC, the suspectNur Alam,32 years old, arrived at Dhaka airport at 00:30 on May 3. Detecting suspicious signs, airport customs stopped him for questioning.

Alamadmitted to authorities that he was hiding gold on his person and would receive 30,000 taka (nearly $400) if the operation was successful.

After being forced to drink water, Alam excreted the gold in his rectum into three plastic bags.

In addition to the six gold bars, the authorities also seized a 100-gram gold necklace from the brother. The total value of the gold is estimated at 3 million taka (nearly $40,000).

Gold smugglers regularly pass through Bangladesh’s airport and are arrested. Much of the gold seized by authorities is believed to be headed to India, one of the world’s top gold importers.
