Nghe An Provincial Ethnic Committee celebrates 70th anniversary of establishment and receives Third Class Independence Medal

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 23, in Vinh City, the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Nghe An province held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the state management agency for ethnic affairs (May 3, 1946 - May 3, 2016) and received the Third Class Independence Medal.

Attending the event were comrade Son Phuoc Hoan - Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee; Nguyen Canh Viet - Deputy Head of the Northwest Steering Committee; on the side of Nghe An province, there was comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; comrades in the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee; representatives of leaders of a number of departments, branches, sectors, provincial-level unions, leaders of districts; leaders of the Provincial Ethnic Committee through the periods, and all cadres and civil servants of ethnic affairs agencies in the province.

Over the past 70 years, under the leadership and direction of the Ethnic Committee, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, the Ethnic Committee of Nghe An province has always accompanied the ethnic minority people and performed well the tasks of each historical period; advised and effectively implemented the ethnic policies of the Government and the province. Through that, the appearance of the mountainous and ethnic areas of the province has changed significantly; the material and spiritual life of the people has been improved and raised; the development gap between regions and ethnic groups in the province has been gradually reduced; political security and social order and safety continue to be maintained.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, commended the results achieved by the Provincial Ethnic Committee over the past 70 years.

Production has undergone a dramatic transformation; agricultural production has shifted from self-sufficiency to commodity development. The poverty rate in ethnic minority and mountainous areas (according to the poverty standard for the period 2011 - 2015) decreased from 36.19% (in 2010) to 16.54%, equivalent to the multidimensional poverty standard of 24.04% (in 2015), an average decrease of 3.93%/year.

As of 2015, the average income of mountainous and ethnic minority areas in Nghe An province was 19 million VND/person/year, reaching 65.51% of the average level of the province (29 million VND/person/year). Infrastructure works such as inter-village and inter-village roads, schools, medical stations, electricity, domestic water, community cultural houses... have been built and completed, handed over and put into use, contributing to socio-economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction...

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Son Phuoc Hoan acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Nghe An province, and emphasized that in recent years, the Party, the State in general and Nghe An province in particular have always paid attention to and cared for ethnic affairs, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of people in the province...

On behalf of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong commended the achievements of the Ethnic Minority Committee. Accordingly, he requested the Provincial Ethnic Minority Committee to continue to direct the effective implementation of the Central's ethnic policies; effectively implement support policies, organize and integrate capital sources of programs, projects, investment policies, and support for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas; promote the dissemination of the Party and State's guidelines and policies, and promote the role of prestigious people among ethnic minorities...

Authorized by the President, comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong awarded the Third Class Independence Medal to the Provincial Ethnic Committee.

Mr. Luong Thanh Hai was awarded the Second Class Labor Medal; the Provincial Ethnic Committee was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Committee; the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province presented a banner with the content "Nghe An Provincial Ethnic Committee - 70 years for the cause of building and developing the ethnic minority region of Nghe An province".
