On the morning of March 31, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Vi Trong Tuan (born 1984, residing in Nghia Thinh commune, Nghia Dan) for the crime of "child rape".

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, on November 7, 2014, Vi Trong Tuan went to his brother's house to eat. There, Tuan met CTKL (born 2009, living in the same neighborhood). Taking advantage of the quiet noon, his animalistic instincts arose, Tuan took KL into the bathroom and committed a depraved act.

When the child returned home, he told his grandmother about the incident. The victim’s family filed a complaint with the authorities. At the time of the abuse, the victim was only 5 years, 2 months and 24 days old. Vi Trong Tuan was prosecuted for “child rape”.

At the trial, Vi Trong Tuan admitted his crime and hoped to receive forgiveness from the victim. After the incident, Tuan’s family compensated the victim nearly 50 million VND for mental damage.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions were particularly serious, infringing on children's rights to care and protection, causing direct harm to human honor and dignity, causing public panic, destabilizing social order and security... However, the defendant had a sincere attitude in confessing, repenting and compensating the civil liability to the victim. Considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced Vi Trong Tuan to 8 years in prison.
