“I would like to emphasize the seriousness of the situation with respect for the ceasefire. We are in direct discussions with Russia. It is clear that the ceasefire is not being observed.

So in the upcoming negotiations, I hope that we will be able to restore a ceasefire across Syria. I also hope for cooperation from Russia because it has a great influence on the Syrian government,” Mr. Kerry said.

Mr. Kerry's visit to Geneva took place after UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura called on the US and Russia to save the two-month-old ceasefire agreement in Syria, which is in danger of collapsing after recent fighting in the city of Aleppo.

Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh also stressed that the situation in Aleppo is very alarming. A ceasefire is necessary to create better conditions for humanitarian activities as well as Syrian political negotiations.

It is expected that today (May 2), Mr. Kerry will meet with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir and Special Envoy de Mistura./.
