What's inside the 4,600-year-old pyramid?
(Baonghean.vn) - Have you ever wondered what the inside of a pyramid looks like? There are no gaps and passages like what you saw in the classic movie "The Mummy". So what is the actual structure of this masterpiece? How was it built to last so long?

The pyramids of ancient Egypt date back some 4,500 years. The great tombs stand tall against the backdrop of vast landscapes, covered in a majestic golden dust.
Now humanity can learn a little more about these structures thanks to cosmic rays. Archaeologists have begun to use this new technology to expand human understanding of the internal structure of the pyramids.
The new Pyramid Scan project uses cosmic rays to map the “interior” of Egypt’s most fascinating sites. The images reveal the winding interior of the 4,600-year-old pyramid, known as the Bent Pyramid, which stands 105 metres (350 feet) high and is located about 40 kilometres (25 miles) south of Cairo.
In ancient times, there appeared a pyramidal structure known as the Southern Pyramid of the Shining. It is believed to be one of the earliest designs of Egypt. It looks odd, most likely built during the transition period from step pyramid construction to smooth, flat pyramids.

Cosmic rays are used to reveal architectural forms, and are comparable to X-rays. Scientists are using muons, particles that are part of cosmic rays, to penetrate layers of rock.
Through this, researchers were able to measure the thickness of stone structures and map their internal structures. From the time the muons were emitted, it took about 40 days to collect all the necessary information.
This is just the beginning, scientists will soon study many other famous pyramids in the mysterious land of Egypt.
