“I know that the fans, especially the spectators, players, and coaches of Song Lam Nghe An team, are very hostile towards me, but from the perspective of someone who did wrong, I really want to apologize to them, a thousand times. My mistake has caused SLNA to suffer a loss.”

Ha Anh Chien did not want to repeat his penalty situation which was considered “crude and elementary”. He only confided that it was a quick play, he decided to blow the whistle, and once the decision was made, it could not be taken back.

Referee Chien said that whoever makes a mistake must bear the consequences, that is something that cannot be avoided. He is ready to accept any punishment from the Referee Board and the Tournament Organizing Committee.

“I love the refereeing profession very much, but I really don’t dare to confirm anything right now whether I can continue to referee or not. For now, I will carry out the punishment first, then we will think about the next step,” Ha Anh Chien shared.

Referee Ha Anh Chien was born in 1976 and is currently a staff member of the Thanh Tri District Sports Center, Hanoi. He started working with the Hanoi referee team in 1998. In the 87th minute of the Thanh Hoa - SLNA match on the afternoon of May 8, Ha Anh Chien awarded the home team Thanh Hoa a penalty kick even though the collision occurred far from the penalty area, seriously affecting the outcome of the match. VPF General Director Cao Van Chong affirmed that this was a terrible mistake, negatively affecting the image of the tournament and proposed to severely punish Ha Anh Chien. The referee board then decided to suspend Ha Anh Chien for the rest of the first leg. Feeling unsatisfied, SLNA filed a request to permanently suspend Ha Anh Chien.
