(Baonghean.vn) - This is the theme of this year's International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8). The Red Cross/Red Crescent organization is present everywhere in the world, from cities to rural areas, remote and isolated regions. Wherever people are affected by disasters, natural calamities, or war and need assistance, there is the Red Cross/Red Crescent organization.

The impact and efforts of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement are all centered around the noble goal of "for all." These include the poor, those in difficult circumstances, people with disabilities, and war victims, with whom the Red Cross aims to improve their lives. They can also be volunteers, Red Cross staff, and individuals always ready to share and support the Red Cross in its humanitarian activities.

According to statistics from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, out of approximately 1 billion people worldwide who aspire to volunteer, only over 16 million become volunteers in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, undertaking the task of providing support services to vulnerable people. In emergency situations, they directly participate in first aid, saving lives from rubble, transporting the injured, providing food and water, deploying healthcare services, and providing psychological support to those in need.

Providing relief to people affected by natural disasters.

In Vietnam, there are currently over 400,000 Red Cross volunteers working in various fields, such as: first aid, voluntary blood donation, humanitarian medical examination and treatment, promoting humanitarian values, disease prevention and control, disaster relief and response… On this journey "for everyone," the Vietnam Red Cross Society has been increasingly effectively fulfilling its role as the core, bridge, and coordinator in humanitarian activities, ensuring that charitable hearts reach those in need in the most timely and effective way.

Building houses to help people.

With the theme "Red Cross - For everyone, everywhere," this year's International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8th calls on everyone involved in humanitarian work under the common roof of the Vietnam Red Cross, especially Red Cross volunteers, to continue striving and contributing with the spirit of "everywhere, for everyone," and to compete in organizing regular and practical assistance to those in particularly difficult circumstances in their living and working areas, in accordance with the spirit of the "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian cause" campaign;

Mobilize broad segments of the population to actively participate in humanitarian movements and campaigns organized by the Society, initially focusing on supporting resources for people in Central Vietnam, the Central Highlands, and the Mekong Delta to overcome the consequences of drought and saltwater intrusion, contributing to creating additional resources to help people in drought- and saline-affected areas overcome difficulties and improve their lives; widely disseminate information about the history of the establishment and development of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, about the activities, movements, and campaigns organized by the Society, thereby mobilizing all segments of the population to support and participate in the Society's activities.
