Life-changing transformation through raising wild ducks.
(Baonghean.vn) - With passion and determination, he successfully built a wild duck farming model that generates nearly 500 million VND annually on the Lam River floodplain. This is the vivid story of Mr. Le Hong Sinh, the owner of a wild duck farm in Hamlet 6, Hung Xa Commune, Hung Nguyen District.
From a young age, Le Hong Sinh dreamed of a comprehensive livestock farm model that would create jobs for laborers in his hometown. This dream was kindled by such ideas. In 2014, recognizing the district and commune's policy of allowing people to lease riverside land for concentrated production development, which was very suitable and could turn his dream into reality, he took on the lease to develop a wild duck farming model.

From the riverside area, Mr. Le Hong Sinh - from Hamlet 6, Hung Xa Commune - has invested in a modern, large-scale wild duck farming model.
On his 6.5-hectare plot, despite the extremely difficult circumstances at the time of acquiring the land and the long-standing failure of riverside farming, he was always concerned about how to sustainably develop the model. He decided to invest months in researching and learning about the model in practice and from books and newspapers.
He mobilized billions of dong and hundreds of man-days of labor to level the land, invest in internal roads, an automatic sprinkler irrigation system, an electricity grid, and six ponds with a scientifically designed wastewater treatment system. To date, his farm model has over 6,500 wild ducks, more than 200 chickens, and 20 cows. The remaining construction items are being completed at an accelerated pace. This is currently considered the most systematically invested model in the riverside area of Hung Nguyen district.

To ensure efficiency in livestock farming, he proactively secured a source of breeding stock, and did a good job of caring for and vaccinating his animals, resulting in healthy and fast-growing livestock.
In a conversation with Mr. Sinh, we learned that: Wild ducks are a new type of livestock, closely related to their natural habitat, and therefore highly sought after by consumers. To ensure effectiveness, he sources his ducklings directly from reputable establishments in Bac Giang province at a price of 50,000 VND per duckling (1 day old).
When the chicks are first brought in, they are kept in cages for 15 days, protected from wind and water, strictly vaccinated, and fed only commercial feed for the first 20 days before being fed a natural mixed feed.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thi (Dien Chau), a worker at Mr. Sinh's livestock farm, said: "Every day, the facility produces 5 quintals of mixed feed made from rice germ, corn, cassava, beer residue, and green vegetables to feed the wild ducks."
He utilizes readily available local resources such as corn, ground cassava combined with cassava pulp, beer residue, and sprouted rice to grind into a feed mixture for his flock of wild ducks.
To ensure a proactive and timely supply of feed for his livestock, he invested in a feed mixer, which allows his facility to produce more than 500 kg of feed for his ducks every day.

Each night, his flock of ducks lays nearly 700 eggs, which are put into incubators to support the development of his farm and over 50% of the ducklings are sold to the local market.
Thanks to careful management, Mr. Sinh's wild duck farming model has developed steadily. According to calculations, after 3 months of raising, the ducks reach a weight of 1-1.2 kg/each. With a selling price of 150,000 VND/each for meat, after deducting expenses, each wild duck yields a net profit of 100,000 VND. This type of farming only consumes 2/3 the feed compared to regular ducks.

The living environment for the wild ducks at Mr. Sinh's farm is planned to be suitable and sustainable. |
Products from Mr. Sinh's wild duck farming model are diversified in two ways: freezing and selling to restaurants and supermarkets nationwide, including Saigon, Dong Nai, and Vinh City; and selling whole ducks wholesale and retail.
More specifically, the wild ducks raised for egg production at his farm have yielded an average of nearly 700 eggs per night, with a hatching rate of 600 chicks, 50% of which he sells as breeding stock to the districts of Anh Son, Tuong Duong, and Yen Thanh. Each year, he sells over 4,000 high-quality breeding stock, with the remaining 50% used for breeding at his own farm.

Braised wild duck with sour plums is a dish with a rich and flavorful taste. With proper investment and branding, wild duck could become a culinary specialty of Nghe An province.
To improve production efficiency, his approach is to build reputation and eventually establish a "brand" for clean duck from Nghe An province.
In the future, Mr. Sinh will continue to invest in infrastructure, improve product quality, and seek markets in major provinces, thereby creating many jobs for rural workers.
