The students studying and living at schools in Vinh City come from many different rural areas in the province. Each locality has its own unique products, and many city dwellers enjoy the flavors that are distinctly rural. Understanding this, the students have come up with the idea of selling these regional specialties online.
Some famous specialties from the western region of Nghe An province, such as oranges, bamboo shoots, bitter greens, beef jerky, Thanh Chuong fermented bamboo shoots, Nam Dan soy sauce, Quynh Luu fish sauce, Nghe An eel, Nam Nghia tamarind, etc., have been sold online and commercially by young people throughout the country.
Many students have also capitalized on young people's preference for snacks by opening shops selling donuts, cakes, cream puffs, fruit salads, fruit juices, iced tea, etc., generating a significant income.
Selling at a single price

Mr. Nguyen Hai Luan, owner of a "12K VND per item" shop on Nguyen Du Street, near Vinh University, said: "Because I am also a student, I understand the practical needs of students. Therefore, my friend and I boldly invested in opening this shop to serve the needs of students. The shop has been operating for a year now, with an average daily revenue of 2-2.5 million VND."
The goods sold here are very diverse, serving the learning and daily needs of students, from school supplies and utensils like knives and cutting boards to cosmetics, accessories, and even the smallest items like needles and thread... all priced at a flat rate of 12,000 VND. These same fixed-price shops are not only found at Vinh University but also in front of most universities, colleges, and vocational schools in Vinh City.
Selling clothing, cosmetics, and handmade goods.
Clothing and cosmetics are currently popular business ventures among students. However, opening a physical store requires at least 50 million VND upfront, plus monthly expenses like rent, electricity, and water, making it very costly and risky. Therefore, many students choose to sell online with just a few million VND in capital, or even without any upfront investment, simply by having customers transfer money and then receiving the goods.
Ms. Thanh Huong, a final-year student at Vinh University and owner of the "Vietnamese Goods, Student Prices" fashion store on Nguyen Van Troi Street, said: "I opened my business two years ago. Initially, I only brought in a small amount of goods, posted samples online, and sold them, needing only about 10 million VND in capital. But after a while, my supplier and customer base became stable and grew larger. I decided to rent a small 8m2 shop to do business. Currently, my average daily income is about 5 million VND, which, for a student like me, far exceeds my expectations."
Those with a knack for crafting can create beautiful, unique items or delicious food to sell and earn extra income, such as knitting scarves, gloves, and hats; buying materials to make accessories; processing natural cosmetics; or preparing fast food.
Selling flowers and gifts for holidays.
On special occasions like Valentine's Day (February 14th), International Women's Day (March 8th), Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20th), and Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20th), the streets near universities and colleges are bustling with activity thanks to flower and gift vendors run by students.
There are periods when sales are very good, but there are also periods when sales are very slow. But whether successful or not, you gain interesting experiences with many beautiful memories in your student life and gradually integrate into the vibrant market economy...
