Singer My Linh performed the Vietnamese National Anthem in chamber music style at the National Convention Center on May 24. |
That was singer My Linh's response to public opinion "criticizing" her for singing the Vietnamese National Anthem before US President Obama at noon on May 24 in Hanoi.
Most opinions said that My Linh performed the National Anthem deeply, touching the hearts of listeners. However, there were also some opinions that the female singer sang in a tone too low, causing the song to lose its inherent heroic quality. There were even many opinions that the singer sang as if "a ceiling fan had fallen on her head", like she was "high on drugs"....
Infonet reporter called singer My Linh, she did not answer and replied that she could not talk because she was busy. The reporter left a message: "Do you have any feedback on the fact that many people did not like the way you sang the national anthem at President Obama's speech at the National Convention Center yesterday, May 24?" A few minutes later, singer My Linh sent back a message: "I'm very sorry I'm busy and cannot reply, I have no feedback."
Talking to reporters, a veteran singer expressed his disagreement with My Linh’s singing style. The chamber music singer expressed his disappointment, saying that since it is a national anthem, the spirit of the song and the lyrics should be preserved…although each singer needs to be creative, they should not lose the spirit of a song. Especially since the performance is symbolic of a country and a nation.
Contrary to this view, musician Pho Duc Phuong said that "singing without wrong music or lyrics is not a problem", although when asked by a reporter, this musician said he had not seen or heard her sing.
“Peace is always better than war. Whatever people want to say is up to them. That is my choice, peace is always good. The time of war and bombs has passed, so I sing the national anthem with the message of peacetime, with the spirit of healing and sharing love, not with the fervor of resistance like before. I do not sing for the crowd, but sing with all my heart to close the past and look to the future” – singer My Linh wrote.
Immediately after that, the singer "Short Hair" also shared a video of her singing the National Anthem at the inauguration ceremony of the Green One United Nations House in Vietnam.
Previously, when she was chosen to represent Vietnam to sing the national anthem to welcome US President Obama, singer My Linh shared with the press her pride when "Singing at an important event of the country, in front of the US President as well as domestic and international guests is an honor for me".
The singer of “Huong Ngoc Lan” also added that the special thing about this performance was that “I only sang alone and sang the National Anthem, without background music, without an orchestra. But this is also a job that an artist like me must find normal in order to do well”. And she also devoted all her mind to practice to be able to complete this important task.
In 2008, she moved many Vietnamese people living in Japan when she sang the Vietnamese National Anthem in front of the Japanese Royal Family with an accapella version.
