(Baonghean.vn) - As a vital route connecting Yen Thanh (Nghe An), Provincial Road 538 connects National Highway 1A and National Highway 7. However, in recent years, this provincial road has been seriously degraded.The risk of accidents lurks, affecting the lives of tens of thousands of households.

The road through Roc market, Trung Thanh commune, Yen Thanh was turned into a pond.

According to observations on Provincial Road 538, the road surface has almost completely peeled off the asphalt layer, the road has sunk and cracked, causing difficulties for vehicles and danger for people when passing through.

In the Roc market area of ​​Trung Thanh commune, there are 3 road points that have turned into deep, concave ponds, always posing a risk of accidents for vehicles.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang, a resident of Roc market, Trung Thanh commune, was upset: Every time it rains, the road turns into a pond, dirty water flows into houses, and the water recedes and the road surface becomes muddy. On hot sunny days, the dust is everywhere, always posing a potential traffic safety risk.

Many sections of asphalt road were peeled off and rocks protruded, making it difficult for vehicles to travel.

The section passing through Nam Thanh commune has peeling surfaces and puddles on the sidewalk.

On the road sections passing through Xuan Thanh, Hoa Thanh and Hop Thanh communes, the road structure is deformed.

Mr. Tran Thuong Hoan, Chairman of Trung Thanh Commune People's Committee, added: The section passing through Trung Thanh Commune is the most seriously degraded. Especially the section passing through Roc Market, the road has turned into a "pond" with a very high risk of traffic accidents. Since 2014, there have been 6 serious traffic accidents.

People in Lien Thanh commune had to pour gravel and rocks into the concave and convex areas themselves.

Mr. Phan Thanh Cao, Head of the Department of Industry and Trade of Yen Thanh District, admitted: Provincial Road 538 is a class IV - V road with a design load of H13 - X60. The reason this road is seriously degraded is because the roadbed is weak. Every day, hundreds of overloaded trucks carrying sand, stone, bricks, wood, agricultural products such as corn, cassava circulate densely. In some places, there is no drainage, so the road sinks and turns into a pond or lake in the middle of the road.

Vehicles traveling on this route are quickly damaged due to severe road degradation.

Mr. Nguyen Van De, Secretary of Yen Thanh District Party Committee, added: The district has made recommendations to higher authorities regarding the serious deterioration of Provincial Road 538 for many years. However, due to many difficulties in the locality, there is no annual budget for maintenance and repair. Recently, according to Decision No. 1084/QD-BGTVT dated April 8, 2016 of the Minister of Transport, Provincial Road 538 connecting National Highway 7 with National Highway 46B became National Highway 7B, assigned to the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam to manage, exploit, maintain and repair.

People in the district really hope that the State will invest in upgrading this new national highway to ensure traffic for people's lives and socio-economic development.
