Body parts recovered from the wreckage of the EgyptAir plane suggest there was an explosion on board, Reuters quoted an Egyptian forensic official and multiple investigative sources as saying on May 24.

The official said the conclusion was based on the small size of the body parts recovered. "The largest part was only the size of a hand. Some of the body parts, contained in 23 bags, began arriving on May 22," he said.

Investigators have yet to find any evidence that the explosion was caused by a bomb, according to sources.

"All information on this matter is completely false and just assumptions, not from the Forensic Authority," Egyptian state news agency MENA quoted Hesham Abdelhamid, head of the Forensic Authority at the Ministry of Justice, as saying.

Flight MS804, carrying 56 passengers and 10 crew members from Paris, France, to Cairo, Egypt, disappeared from radar screens at around 2:30 a.m. on May 19. Authorities confirmed that the plane crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.

Investigators are still searching for the two black boxes from the missing Airbus A320 to determine why it crashed into the sea. EgyptAir said the victims' families had provided DNA samples to help identify body parts.
